Northern Premier League Premier Division: Ilkeston 0 Whitby Town 0.

The New Manor Ground. Awsworth Rd, Ilkeston DE7 8JF

I’ve been to Ilkeston a few times watching FCUM but Frankie had never visited before. He was quite taken with the main stand with a clock tower on its roof and we watched the first half from there with the Whitby Town radio lads commentating from behind us.

A dull first half turned into an epic half time with the discovery of the steak pies. Easily the best pie we have had at a ground this season. The food hut and clubhouse bar are always a highlight of a visit to ‘Ilson’.

The second half was rubbish too, though Ilkeston were buzzing with their point against a much more experienced and top-of-the-table Whitby team. I’d heard that Ilkeston had a young side but half of them looked that baby-faced I thought Frankie might get a game.

A cracking club with a top ground. We’ll return when they get promoted* and play FCUM again (*Or FCUM get relegated).
