Leicester & District Football League – Division 2: Forest East 4 Whetstone Athletic 6.

Kirkby Road football ground, Desford, Leicestershire, LE9 9JX

A 6.30 KO fitted right in with our plans and we set-off in the sunshine, although the temperature had dropped to -20 by the time we got out of the car and joined the other 9 spectators. A lower level than we’ve watched before but it was a really good match played at a far higher standard than I expected. The home side were bigger, stronger and older and they went into HT 4-1 up despite Whetstone being the better footballing side. The young lads from Whetstone kept playing their game though and their pace, technique and energy proved too much for Forest East, who were reduced to 9 men when the full-back gripped a Whetstone player by the throat and then their captain just wouldn’t leave the ref alone. It really was far colder than it has any right to be in April. I was up for leaving at HT but Frankie was having none of it (and rightly so…well trained).
