Midland Football League Premier Division – Coventry Sphinx 3 Sporting Khalsa 1.

Sphinx Drive, Coventry CV3 1WA

Took a trip over to Coventry with Frankie and his mate Harry to watch the weirdly-named Sphinx in action (They used to be the works team of a car company who had a Sphinx as their logo).

Between them the two lads watched about 15 minutes of the match before spotting some other lads playing football on the adjacent training pitch and disappearing for the afternoon.

It’s an odd ground with the club-house and changing rooms quite far from the pitch and terraces but the main stand was lovely. Frankie had a good chat with the blokes from Khalsa who were as friendly as we’d remembered from our visit to them a few seasons ago.

It was a good game, especially the last 10 minutes when Khalsa pushed hard for an equaliser before Sphinx broke away to clinch it in the 85th minute.

The woman with the clipboard who was clearly involved with the club gave us great entertainment by swearing more than anyone we’ve ever heard at a match. She turned the air around her bluer than Sphinx’s kit and that was on a day that her were team winning.
