Northern Premier League Premier Division: Ashton United 1 Mickleover Sports 1.
Hurst Cross, 2 Surrey St, Ashton-under-Lyne OL6 8DY
Ah lovely Easter football. Easter. So why was it soooooooo bleeding freezing? We’ve had enough now, this winter can do one. We arrived late at Hurst Cross and there was no-one on the turnstiles to take our money so we made sure we spent on some food and drink in their ace clubhouse. I’ve been to Hurst Cross a few times watching FCUM and such is the niceness of the clubhouse we never left it on our last visit. The ground remains knackered but beautiful and the views of the Pennines are stunning, which made up for the action on the pitch. FCUM legend Nicky Platt unfortunately looked his age out there and didn’t last the 90 but he’s Nicky Platt so y’know.
One of the visitors and two of the home side also failed to see the game out as the last 20 minutes turned very tasty with two straight reds and a second bookable. Our late arrival meant we missed both goals, although we should have seen Mickleover’s winner but their forward somehow missed a simple chance to win it in the 93rd minute. I tried to make excuses for why he might have missed but Frankie nailed it with his observation that “It’s because he’s crap dad”.
