Northern Premier League West Division: Droylsden 4 Runcorn Linnets 2.
The Butchers Arms, Market Street, Droylsden, Manchester, M43 7AW
My first visit to Droylsden’s Butchers Arms ground for 30 years. The previous time I came here I was playing in some local cup final or other. It’s only a 12 minute drive from our Manchester base so was an easy one.
It was a brilliant day out. The Butchers Arms is an ace ground and is clearly well-loved and looked after. There were a few too many City shirts on view but I suppose with the blues living it up a mile-or-so away in Gorton these days this is inevitable. Frankie and a few others made sure United were well-represented too (The good attendance was probably helped by the fact the both the reds and blues didn’t have a game today).
The game was a belter. Droylsden were deserved winners but had to graft for it against a Runcorn side who showed quality as well as great spirit. Droylsden’s seven foot number 9 was the star of the show, scoring two and making one and Runcorn simply couldn’t contain him. Shout-out to the Runcorn fans. They came in good numbers and gave their side great backing throughout.
