Leicestershire & Rutland Intermediate County Cup Quarter Final: Thringstone Miners Welfare 2 Earl Shilton Albion 0.
Homestead Road, Thringstone, Coalville, Leicestershire LE67 8LL
A match between two clubs who’s names sound like they come straight from the pages of a 1950’s football stories annual.
The ground was lovely in a ‘division 22’ way with a spanking new clubhouse and one old and knackered but beautiful covered stand. The excitement in the opening 15 minutes came from trying to decide which of the goalies was the fattest (Earl Shilton’s…just).
The moment of the game came from the left boot of Earl Shilton’s number 10 who found a patch of grass on the mud-bath and curled home a delicious 25 yarder right into the postage stamp. It was one of the best goals we’ve seen at any level this season. Earl Shilton were in command from the first kick. The home side never looked capable of scoring and became increasingly bad-tempered with each other as the game went on.
We expected Thringstone to fightback and really Earl Shilton should’ve scored more in the 2nd half but the weather was turning colder and colder and I don’t think either side could be arsed.
